With the first school opening in 1860,
Lincoln residents have long considered education a top
priority. Today, the Western Placer Unified School District
oversees the education of Lincoln’s children.
Under the district’s jurisdiction are seven elementary
schools, one middle school, a high school, and a continuation
high school. The district also offers an adult education
program. WPUSD owns and operates a 280-acre ranch property
and recently acquired a 179-acre property containing
archeological and environmental sites well suited for
a comprehensive outdoor learning program.
The district is also working with the local community
college district to build the Twelve Bridges Campus—a
new facility to meet the educational needs of students
in grades 9-14. The new campus will offer an integrated
curriculum designed to meet the needs of local business
and industry, as well as provide the basics of core
subjects.

The historic structure is built with brick masonry and
terra cotta trim from Gladding, McBean pottery and opened
as a Carnegie library in 1909. In addition to a fine
book collection, residents may access computers for
word processing and Internet use. The library is open
10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday, Wednesday and Friday and
from 12:30 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday.
The Library at Twelve Bridges
The City of Lincoln recently received a $10 million
grant to construct a new state-of-the art Library to
meet the needs of the community, schools and the future
residents of Lincoln. The Library will be adjacent to
a Western Placer Unified School District high school
and Sierra Community College campus that will be built
on sixty-five acres near the intersection of Twelve
Bridges Drive and Highway 65.
With the goal of opening in 2006, the planned 38,000
square foot Library will house collections for children,
students, parents, seniors, researchers and casual readers.
It will include over one hundred computer terminals
to provide patron access to multiple information sources
on the digital highway.
Southern Placer County Education Overview
Many residents who are part of the Lincoln community
live outside the city limits and may attend regional
schools. The following chart represents the Southern
Placer County Trade area. Students in this area show
distinctively higher SAT scores than the State.
